Sgt. Shawn Dunkin 2-27-81 to 2-19-07
Shawn was born February 27, 1981 and was killed in Iraq on February 19, 2007, just 8 days before his 26th birthday.
Shawn was in a vehicle that also killed Adare Cleveland and Matthew Bowe.
Shawn was my youngest child. He has one sister, Tracie, who lives in Louisville, Kentucky, one niece, Kennedy, and
one nephew, Jacob. Shawn’s father lives in Columbia, SC.
Shawn loved to snowboard and play Texas Hold ‘em. Shawn also loved to go fishing. Many times when I would call
while he was still at Fort Drum , NY , he and his wife, Ashley, would be out fishing. Shawn was a very social person
and as a teen, could be playing basketball, softball, football, or soccer in our back yard with the other neighborhood
boys. He was not much on the book part of high school, but never missed a day because that was where his friends
were.
Before Shawn got his driver’s license, I dropped him off at school one day. I usually gave him a kiss. This day I
didn't. He came around to the driver’s side of the car and wanted to know why I didn't kiss him. I told him that I
didn't want to embarrass him in front of his friends. He said, “I don’t care who knows I love my mom.”
I miss Shawn very, very much and his death has left a big hole in my heart. Shawn – I love you and miss you.

Sgt. William Elliott Allmon June 24, 1982- Died on April 12, 2008
My son was the kind of person everybody liked. He was always cracking a joke or making everyone laugh.
He was compassionate and kind.
A story that is my favorite is the one where we went to a local bar and Will made the other soldiers buy him a
beer before they could dance with me.
We had a unique relationship. I wasn't just his Mom; I was his buddy....LOL.
We all have a purpose in this life and Will's has been served. I have no regrets and I feel only the hurt of missing
him.
He was and is a Hero of the best kind.
