SPC David J. Lane KIA Sept. 4, 2007
My son SPC David J. Lane was killed on Sept. 4, 2007. He had wanted to join
since he was 14 and saw the Sept. 11th tragedy. He could not be accepted into
the military because of his hearing. He had hearing loss caused by a cyst that
continued to grow even after repeated surgeries every 9 months. Finally in 2005
he was able to have a titanium implant put in. It gave him normal hearing and
after being released by the doctor he went to the ARMY recruiters and joined
up. After boot camp in Ft. Benning, Georgia, he was stationed at Ft. Riley. That
was only a 1 1/2 from us so we were lucky to see him almost every weekend. In
April he and Charlie 2/16 were deployed to Iraq. His buddies and superior
officers admired his dedication and seriousness on missions. When he was off
the missions he made it his personal mission to make the other guys laugh
with his funny faces and antics. His friends from our hometown nicknamed him
"goofy Dave". We all miss him so much but I am so proud of him- in life and
death. Maria Lane- mother of a fallen soldier

Spec John J Young
2/21/83 - 9/21/07 War on Terror Operation Iraqi Freedom
To my darling young son, John, You are forever in our hearts. I am so proud of the man you became. As I told you in every
instant message, email, and letter, you are my hero. I was so proud of your wanting to join the Army right after 9-11, and then even
prouder of everything you had to do to be accepted. Your comrades from Delta Company, 2-14 Infantry, and 10th Mountain Division
also speak of your heroism. Several of them continue to call me and visit as they want to help keep your memory alive and keep up
with your "Mom".
I've heard so many wonderful stories of your life in Iraq. How you were the favorite driver of the lead humvee because you could see
the IEDS when no one else could. I've heard that you were the "go-to" guy; the one that a soldier would go to when they were
having a hard time. After visiting your trailer, they would come away feeling better. You might even dance to make someone
laugh and help them forget their problems. I've heard about your singing karaoke with an English accent, probably a Beatles song.
Your platoon sergeant told me that he wished he had a whole army of soldiers like "Young". I've heard of the many pranks your
buddies played on you because you were gullible and you were such a good sport when they finished their practical "joke".
I thank God for the 24 years that I was privileged to be your Mom. My heart breaks for missing you, but I'm so proud of the
courageous and heroic life you have lived. In memory of my darling young son
