Corporal James Wayne Maxwell Buck was born December 16, 1983, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Cynthia A. Moody and Karl Pentz.

He later moved to Macedonia, South Carolina, while he attended Timberland High School and graduated a year early in 2001.

That summer he enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 2 at the age of seventeen. He attended recruit training at Parris Island Recruit
Training Depot graduating from First Battalion on September 28, 2001.

Upon graduation of boot camp, he reported to Company C, Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, where he earned
the Military Occupation Specialty of 0341. He then received orders to First Battalion, Sixth Marines and was assigned to Charlie
Company, Weapons Platoon at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on December 8, 2001.

In May of 2002, he volunteered for the screening and selection process of the battalion's scout sniper platoon, which he served an
oversea's deployment as a scout to Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan. He then attended Second Marine Division Scout Sniper School at
Stone Bay, North Carolina, graduating on June 30, 2003.

Upon graduation, he was selected to be a sniper team leader for the Maritime Special Purpose Force, 22nd MEU. He then led his team
successfully throughout combat operations in the Oruzgan Province in Afghanistan. Upon completion of this deployment, he assisted in
the training and rebuilding of the Scout Sniper Platoon in preparation for the upcoming deployment to Iraq in which he volunteered to
extend his end of active service date for.

Accomplishments during Corporal Buck's enlistment include Scout Sniper School, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape School, Urban
Sniper Course, Advanced Reconnaissance and Surveillance Course, Special Operations Spotters Course, and Universal Ground
Spotters Course.

His awards and decorations include a Navy and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Global War on
Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, and a certificate of
commendation. He is survived by his mother and father, Cynthia Moody and Karl Pentz, his two sisters, Cindy and Hailey Buck and
stepfather, James Moody.

Maj Edward Murphy KIA 4-6-05

Murphy was killed along with 17 others when the CH-47 (Chinook) helicopter he
was aboard crashed 80 miles southwest of Kabul (Ghanzi, Afghanistan).  He was
assigned to US Army Southern European Task Force, Camp Ederle, Italy, where
he worked as a signal officer.  

Murphy was a 1991 graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Capt. Michael J. Medders DOB 11/4/1982-KIA 9-24-08

He was a 2001 graduate of Avon Lake High School where he was an All Ohio Football player and
enjoyed singing in the choir. He attended Walsh University in North Canton and then transferred to
Bowling Green State University. He entered the R.O.T.C. there, his sophomore year, in 2003 and
graduated in 2005. He was a troop leader stationed in Fort Hood, TX and served at FOB Caldwell in
Iraq. His family and fiancee indicated that he touched so many hearts and was always laughing,
smiling, optimistic and willing to help others.

PO2nd Cl Anthony Carbullido DOB 8/25/1982-KIA
8/8/2008 in Afghanistan

Killed in Sangatesh, Afghanistan, when his convoy
encountered an improvised explosive device. The
25-year-old corpsman was working as an instructor at the
Navy Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Illinois, when
he deployed to Afghanistan with the 1st Supply Battalion,
Combat Logistics Regiment 15, 1st Marine Logistics
Group. He was buried with full military honors at Guam
Veterans Cemetery in Piti, Guam, on the day after what
would have been his 26th birthday

Sgt. Terrell W. Gilmore DOB Sept. 27, 1969-KIA 3/30/2008-in Iraq

During his spiritual journey, Bishop Richard V. Allmon Sr. at the Full Gospel United
Pentecostal Church in Baton Rouge baptized him in Jesus' name. Upon graduating from
Glen Oaks High School in 1988, his love for the armed forces directed him to join the
U.S. Army. He served a tour of active duty with the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserve
and the U.S. Army Reserve Control Group. Sgt. Gilmore enlisted in the Louisiana
National Guard on June 17, 2002. He was assigned to Headquarters Support Company,
769th Engineer Battalion, Baton Rouge. He was a qualified subsistence supply
specialist and vehicle driver. Sgt. Gilmore was deployed to Iraq on July 19, 2007. He
was also a veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. Sgt. Gilmore served his country
with a sincere passion in what he believed to be an honorable stand for what is right.
His military awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Service
Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device,
Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with
bronze service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal,
Overseas Service Ribbon 2nd Award, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze
stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army lapel button,
Louisiana War Cross, Louisiana General Excellence Ribbon, Louisiana Longevity
Ribbon, Louisiana Emergency Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge

Capt. Richard Cliff KIA 9/29/2008 in Afghanistan

was killed September 29th, 2008, while conducting a combat reconnaissance patrol in the vicinity of
Yakhchal, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of combat operations while serving with Company
B, 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in September, 2008, as a member of the
Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan. This was his third deployment in support
of the Global War on Terror and his first deployment to Afghanistan. Captain Cliff was a Special Forces
Operational Detachment- Alpha Team Commander.
Cliff was a native of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and graduated from Wando High School in 1997. He was
commissioned in June, 2002, after graduating from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. At
Appalachian State 'Richie' was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and ROTC. Richie began his
military career at Ft. Benning, GA, where he completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course. His first
assignment was Ft. Lewis, Washington, where he was a platoon leader with the 5th Battalion 20th
Infantry Stryker Brigade Combat Team. He deployed with them to Iraq in 2003, and again in 2006, as a
company Executive Officer. Cliff then went to Ft. Benning, GA where he completed the Maneuver
Captains Career Course. He began the Special Forces Qualification Course June, 2007, and he earned
the coveted "Green Beret" in July, 2008.
Cliff's military education includes the Maneuver Captains Career Course, Infantry Officer Course,
Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Course, Basic Airborne Course, Ranger Course, and Special
Forces Qualification Course. Richie also became bilingual, learning Spanish while at the Qualification
Course.
His awards and decorations include four Army Commendation Medals (one for valor), the Army
Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq
Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge,
the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and the Special Forces Tab.
In his spare time Richie was an avid surfer with his favorite local spot being Folly Beach. He traveled to
Costa Rica, Hawaii and surf spots up and down the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. He enjoyed days spent
on his boat, wakeboarding with friends, and hitting the slopes with his brother, Eddie. Richie also
climbed to the summit of Mt. Rainier in Washington state while stationed at Ft. Lewis. Richie loved life
and enjoyed every day to the fullest. He had an amazing sense of humor, always playing practical jokes
on his friends. His laugh was so infectious and luckily for those around him, he laughed a lot. Richie
made friends with ease, becoming friends with everyone he met. He never had a bad thing to say about
anyone. He was driven to succeed and excelled at every endeavor. His friends describe him as loyal
and kind, a born leader.
