Grief is an individual process
|
When my son was killed I had so many questions and more importantly I thought the world had ended. He had
finally found the love of his life and married a wonderful person. Together they had a child and he was the
proudest person in the world on that day. I didn't understand at that point in time how my son could have been
taken just when he had so much life and love to give and receive.
Questions of why and how, crying and hiding from friends was the life I was to have for months to come. There
were questions of "had I done what I could to protect my child". What would happen to my daughter in law and
grandson? How would his sister and brother deal with this loss? So many question and too many answers to get
from just one person. How were other parents and family members dealing with grief and what were they doing
to get through this terrible ordeal?
Friends and family treated me differently. No one wanted me to talk about Buck or his death. I lost my job
because grief had over taken me. Others would think it's been several months and I should be over the grief.
This is something you never get over you just endure your life in a different way. Friends were no longer there
and I developed new friends in our support group. It's sad but our lives changed forever.
God led me to start a support group for families of the fallen. At that moment I was filled with many answers and
came together with many other families who felt and grieved as I did. Together we are healing and continue to
help others.
In the following pages you will be introduced to our sons, daughters and family members who have given their
lives for what they believed in. If you have lost some one in war or in the service of their country I would
encourage you to join our support group for healing and joining together with others who have or are going
through this very grief.
Support comes from those who have gone through this same pain
